The wonderful benefits of fresh bee pollen

“Super food”, fresh pollen results from the incredible symbiosis between the bee and the flower. When foraging, the microscopic grains of pollen from the flower stamens adhere to the bee's hairs. She makes balls of them with her saliva and stores them in the baskets of her hind legs to bring them back to the hive.

A true nutritional treasure, fresh bee pollen is full of benefits. According to the ORAC index, which measures the antioxidant capacity of foods, fresh pollen is even the most antioxidant food in the world! So why choose to consume it every day? Discover the many benefits of protective, revitalizing pollen and gain daily well-being!

Fresh bee pollen: an ancient health elixir

The nutritional benefits of entomophilous pollen (pollen collected and then transported by bees) have been documented since the dawn of time.

Flower pollen, in addition to acting as a powerful natural probiotic, offers its consumer an exceptional source of vitamins, fiber, minerals and complete proteins. Ideal for vegetarians and athletes, this tonic also perfectly meets the needs of people seeking hormonal rebalancing. Furthermore, fresh pollen, unlike dry pollen in a jar - which is heated pollen, keeps its micronutrients, lactic ferments and original vitamins intact.

Bee products: honey, royal jelly, propolis, wax and even fresh pollen are health allies already cited in ancient texts relating to medicine or food.

Egyptian doctors used honey and beeswax to treat various health problems . For example, honey, considered a “medicine”, was already included in the composition of dressings made 2000 years BC. Similarly, Pedanius Dioscorides, in the 1st century BC. BC, spoke of the powers of honey, wax and propolis in his writings on the medicinal properties of plants.

Hippocrates, in the 5th century BC. AD, extolled the virtues of honey for health, prescribing it in particular for burns and skin wounds.

On the African continent, traditional healers have always used honey for its curative properties , sometimes combining it with specific plants depending on the pathologies.

In the 20th century, in the 1950s, Rémy Chauvin, a great French biologist and entomologist, restored pollen to its former glory, long forgotten by the scientific community. His work, carried out using dry and rehydrated pollen, highlights the protective role of pollen in the treatment of benign prostatic hypertrophy . This disease, common in men and linked to aging, causes urinary problems from the age of 50.

The biologist mentions it in “Treatise on the biology of the bee published in 1968” . With a renowned bacteriologist, they also revealed that pollen has antibiotic properties which act as a barrier to germs harmful to the intestinal flora (salmonella, colibacilli). On the other hand, once dried, pollen completely loses its antibiotic properties , because drying causes the “healing” bacteria to disappear.

Then, a Swede named Cernelle developed a technique for collecting pollen in large quantities and opened the way to its therapeutic use, particularly for its potential beneficial effects in urology. (Source: Bee pollen: its properties and therapeutic uses Marion Thibault)

Fresh bee pollen: unsuspected benefits

Did you know that in the United States, pollen has been defined as a dietary supplement by the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA)? It is prescribed to make up for a deficient diet , very common in our Western societies. Beyond deficiencies, it also stimulates the immune system during seasonal changes, for example, and fights against fatigue.

However, in France, frozen bee pollen is difficult to find in pharmacies and its virtues remain unknown to the general public.

Due to its exceptional antioxidant properties, fresh pollen has the power to fight free radicals. Thus, it actively protects the health of the body's cells. It combats the effect of pollutants: alcohol, tobacco, pesticides and pollution which dull the skin and accelerate its aging. In addition, the anti-inflammatory effect of polyphenols and carotenoids, in particular β carotene, protects the intestine and, in turn, supports the skin balance of the pollen consumer.

Why is our pollen frozen?

Dehydrating fresh pollen means stripping it of all its nutrients . It is therefore “dead” from a nutritional point of view. At Apicia, we have chosen to freeze our fresh pollen so that they retain all of their active ingredients. For you to benefit from its wonderful benefits and increased vitality, pollen must absolutely be fresh. This is why we offer you two types of fresh pollen made using a patented process and to be stored in the freezer.

How to consume pollen?

The ideal is to integrate fresh pollen into your breakfast as a gesture combining health and pleasure in the morning. Two teaspoons , preferably with fruit (on a fruit salad, in a compote or juice), are recommended. Children can consume half this amount. Fresh pollen being a food, it can be consumed daily throughout the year, without risk of overdose. All our recommendations are here.
