Propolis: how to choose it well? how to take it?
How to choose it well?
To have effective propolis, 3 quality criteria must systematically be sought:
- Botanical origin.
Be careful of brands mentioning “White Propolis”, “Black Propolis” without ever indicating the real botanical origin of the propolis. These brands (even if we see them in all organic stores... are not serious and have an "all-marketing" approach, with untraceable products - and what's more, with a very low concentration of active ingredients).
At Apicia, our propolis is poplar propolis.
- The harvest method
Most propolis on the market is scraping propolis. This propolis is scraped from the hive frames by beekeepers. Now this propolis remained in the hive for a long time; it has oxidized, thus losing most of its active ingredients (not to mention the fact that being on the frames, they can contain the phytosanitary products used by beekeepers)
Only harvesting on a grid for brown propolis, and on a strip for green and red propolis ensures quality propolis. The grid is placed above the frames by the beekeepers and removed as soon as it is filled, thus making it possible to obtain fresh propolis, concentrated in active ingredients.
At Apicia, our poplar propolis comes from harvests on grids.
- The amount of polyphenols
Propolis as such is of no use if it is not sufficiently concentrated in polyphenols, its active ingredients. If you take propolis with a low concentration of polyphenols, you will have no health effects... apart from the placebo effect! This criterion is absolutely fundamental. Avoid brands that do not indicate the quantity of polyphenols in their propolis... we know why they do not indicate it!
At Apicia, our propolis has the highest polyphenol content on the market (95mg of polyphenols per dose).
How to take it?
We offer poplar propolis in different dosage forms: capsules , water-soluble solution (ampoules) , hydroalcoholic solutions ( single doses, droppers).
The important thing is not the type of galenic (it's up to you to choose the galenic you prefer), but the quantity of polyphenols per dose.
At Apicia, 1 dose = 2 capsules = 1 water-soluble ampoule = 1 single dose of hydroalcoholic solution = 30 drops from the dropper = 95mg of polyphenols (highest concentration on the market)
For the protocol, it will depend on the use: preventive use, or curative use.
- As prevention to boost the immune system (at seasonal changes, before a trip to a country with precarious living conditions, etc.): 20 days of treatment, at a rate of 1 dose per day.
- As a cure: from the first symptoms of illness and until complete recovery, at a rate of 3 doses per day. This can therefore range from 4 days (colds) to 3 months (for acne or rosacea for example).
For children aged 3 and over, choose an alcohol-free dosage form (for example, water-soluble capsules or ampoules) and divide the doses by two.
