6 THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT VITAMIN C
Vitamin C is recognized by dermatologists as being one of the most effective active ingredients for healthy skin! Radiance boost, even complexion, protection against free radicals, reduction of dark spots... this active ingredient is a must have for all skin types!
But before incorporating this active ingredient into your routine, here are 6 things to know:
01. Vitamin C can be applied morning AND evening
Contrary to popular belief, vitamin C is not photosensitive, that is to say it absolutely does not accentuate the damage caused by the sun on the skin (unlike other active ingredients such as retinol for example) , and can therefore be applied both in the morning and in the evening.
This is the SOLUTION in which vitamin C is integrated which can be photosensitive! So be careful which Vitamin C Serum you choose, make sure that the overall formula is not photosensitizing.
When the formula is not photosensitizing (as is the case with our ORGANIC C Radiance Serum with vitamin C ), it is strongly recommended to apply its Vitamin C Serum in the morning, for its antioxidant properties which act as a shield to fight against external aggressions (sun, pollution, etc.) - ALWAYS under sunscreen.
In the evening, vitamin C is interesting for its regenerating action on the skin.
02. Vitamin C + sunscreen = a winning duo!
When applied together, vitamin C boosts the benefits of sunscreen! Vitamin C does not absorb UVB or UVA rays like sunscreen does, but it helps protect cells from oxidative stress caused by the sun thanks to its antioxidant properties. So, take advantage of its protective benefits by applying a few drops of vitamin C in the morning under your sunscreen.
03. Vitamin C is used both for prevention and treatment of dark spots
There are many internal and external factors that can trigger a pigment imbalance, responsible for local hyperpigmentation of the skin. One of the causes? An overproduction of the dark brown pigment called melanin. However, vitamin C has the power to act on the activity of the tyrosinase enzyme which synthesizes melanin. Thus, by regulating the production of melanin, it prevents new spots from forming, while reducing brown spots already visible. Results: fewer spots, more uniform and luminous skin!
04. Vitamin C can combine with hyaluronic acid
All active ingredients should not be mixed! On the other hand, vitamin C and hyaluronic acid are active ingredients that can be combined in the same routine. It is even highly recommended, for their complementary effects on slowing down skin aging. Vitamin C protects the skin and stimulates its radiance while hyaluronic acid (with 3 molecular weights) deeply hydrates and stimulates elasticity.
What is the correct order of application? At Apicia, we recommend first applying our Organic C Radiance Serum with vitamin C, followed by our Organic Regenerating Serum with hyaluronic acid.
