4 things to know about hyaluronic acid
01. It acts like a sponge
Hyaluronic acid is an essential active ingredient in cosmetics for its moisturizing power. Like a sponge, it has the capacity to hold up to 1000 times its weight in water. With age, hyaluronic acid – naturally present in the body – decreases, leading to loss of moisture in the skin. This is why it is natural for skin to become drier and less hydrated with age. The result is dull skin, loss of firmness and the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
To help compensate for this loss of hydration due to the natural decrease in hyaluronic acid, we recommend incorporating a hyaluronic acid serum into your daily routine.
From the first uses, you will notice the hydrating power of hyaluronic acid on your skin. For more visible results, particularly for its anti-aging effect, we recommend using the hyaluronic acid serum for at least 4 to 6 weeks.

02. There are 3 different types of hyaluronic acid
Hyaluronic acid exists in 3 different forms, or more precisely, under 3 different molecular weights. Each molecular weight has a different ability to penetrate the skin, and different benefits.
High Molecular Weight (HPM): High molecular weight hyaluronic acid stays on the skin's surface and provides immediate hydration - acting as a protective barrier on the skin's surface that helps prevent water loss, and a smoothing and plumping effect. It is the form of hyaluronic acid most used in the cosmetic industry.
Medium molecular weight (MPM): This hyaluronic acid lightly penetrates the skin barrier. It helps stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, the proteins responsible for skin firmness and elasticity. This can help improve the overall structure of the skin and reduce visible signs of aging. Medium molecular weight hyaluronic acid provides long-term hydration and a longer-lasting anti-aging effect.
Low Molecular Weight (BPM): Low molecular weight hyaluronic acid has the ability to penetrate deeper into the skin. It has anti-inflammatory properties and promotes cell regeneration. Low molecular weight hyaluronic acid also stimulates the natural production of hyaluronic acid by skin cells, which maintains long-term hydration and health of the skin. It can help repair skin damage, soothe inflammation and improve skin texture. It is very rare to find this form of hyaluronic acid in cosmetic treatments (it is the most expensive!).
To maximize the benefits, we recommend using a hyaluronic acid serum that combines all three molecular weights like our Organic Regenerating Serum .
03. It is compatible with all skin types
Hyaluronic acid is one of the most versatile active ingredients: it offers many benefits whether your skin is dry, normal, oily or sensitive. Its structure being very similar to that naturally present in our body, cases of irritation or allergies are extremely rare.
Dry skin: Particularly beneficial for dry skin, hyaluronic acid will help to deeply hydrate the skin and make it softer and more supple, while reducing feelings of tightness.
Oily skin: Oily skin can also suffer from dehydration. Hyaluronic acid being very light and non-comedogenic, it hydrates without clogging pores. It can therefore be used without problem on oily skin to provide just the right amount of hydration that this skin needs.
Sensitive skin: Hyaluronic acid is an active ingredient very well tolerated by most sensitive skin. It helps hydrate and soothe the skin while relieving skin irritation, strengthening the skin barrier, and reducing sensitivity.
04. Its optimal concentration is 2%
The percentage of hyaluronic acid in a treatment can vary depending on the type of treatment and the specific objective. On the market, we find concentrations of hyaluronic acid (with the 3 molecular weights) ranging from 0.1% to 2%.
Higher concentrations are used in targeted products for more intense hydration and anti-aging effect, such as in a serum, while lower concentrations may be present in less specific products to provide light hydration or as a complement to other active ingredients such as in moisturizing creams or lotions. But it is important to note that using a low concentration of hyaluronic acid of course does not provide the same visible or long-lasting results as those obtained with higher concentrations.
ATTENTION The concentration of hyaluronic acid is not the only determining factor in its effectiveness. The quality of the product, the size of the hyaluronic acid molecules used, as well as the other ingredients in the formulation can also influence the results obtained.
To fully benefit from the benefits of hyaluronic acid, always choose a treatment containing the 3 molecular weights of hyaluronic acid, at a concentration of 2% as in our Organic Regenerating Serum .
